Leadership is more than just a word. It's the heart to stand up with courage on tough issues when others are too timid to act; it's the skill of persuading your colleagues on the merits of your position when conventional wisdom predicts they'll never agree with you; and it's the ability to inspire your constituents with trust and confidence when so many have lost faith in the people they've elected. Mark Leno is the definition of leadership.
With over 26 bills authored and signed into law in his first term as a State Assemblyman, and 17 bills currently pending, Mark has been an extraordinarily effective legislator. He has led the way in Sacramento on such vital issues as the environment, health care, education, the economy, fair housing, election reform, government sunshine, civil rights for the LBGT community, business development, traffic solutions, and Iraq. More importantly he has done so through solid knowledge of the facts, thoughtful and reasonable persuasion, the ability to cooperate and work well with others, and a deep and abiding belief in the grassroots process.
I started out my political activism as a teenager volunteering on Bobby Kennedy's presidential campaign, and it is great to be reminded that it is still possible to work for a candidate that I admire, respect and believe in. That's why I am so proud to be the Marin/Sonoma Field Organizer for Mark Leno's State Senate Campaign. If you haven't had the opportunity to know Mark yet, I am eager for you to meet him and learn for yourselves why I've become such a fan and supporter.
Mark comes from the political school of personal contact, and he's happiest when meeting with constituents, both singly and in small and large groups.
